Joseph Gilbert Yvon "Jean" Ratelle (born October 3, 1940 in Lac Saint-Jean, Quebec) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Ratelle was poised to beat out Boston Bruins' legend Phil Esposito for the scoring title in 1972 before he lost fifteen games due to an injury, but came back for the Stanley Cup finals against Boston to lead his team.
In 1985, Jean Ratelle was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Jean Ratelle played in six games, scored one goal in Winnipeg and had four points overall in the Series.

Smooth as the ice itself, Jean Ratelle became one of the greatest Rangers centers of all time, much in the mold of predecessors Frank Boucher and Neil Colville and successors Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier.
Ratelle was the linchpin of the “GAG Line,” one of the greatest trios in team history that featured Rod Gilbert at right wing and Vic Hadfield on the left side.
Ratelle scored the final goal at the third Madison Square Garden on February 11, 1968, a 3-3 tie with the Detroit Red Wings.

It consisted of Jean Ratelle at center, Rod Gilbert on right wing and Vic Hadfield (also the Rangers team captain) on the left side.
The line was broken up in 1975 as Jean Ratelle was traded along with defenseman Brad Park and Joe Zanussi to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Carol Vadnais and Phil Esposito.
Hadfield went on to play with other teams, while Ratelle finished his career as a Bruin and Rod Gilbert remained with the Rangers for the rest of his career.

In 1975-76, RATELLE began the season with the New York Rangers.
He had worn Broadway blue since 1960-61, but on November 7, 1975, the NHL was stunned to discover that RATELLE, Brad Park and Joe Zanussi had been sent to Boston in exchange for Phil Esposito and Carol Vadnais.
RATELLE scored 36 goals and 69 assists between the two teams, finishing sixth in scoring with 105 points.
