Jeannot Szwarc: I prefer shooting on location, because I think all the details are true, whereas it's more difficult to reproduce in the studio.
Jeannot Szwarc: Not to my knowledge, and I must say that the complaint about the shark looking fake is a new one, since I've never heard it.
Jeannot Szwarc: In a nutshell, the duty is to translate pages of the script into a visual medium, but also it's like being an orchestra conductor.

 Jeannot Szwarc
The direction by Szwarc is very game, introducing a criminal element of the film noir within the savvy appearance of offhand professionalism.
This is the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty in DC comic style transferred to film, with all the literary, technical and artistic faculties required for such a feat.
Szwarc’s mastery of this is best seen in the snow-globe view of a house which dissolves into the genuine article lighted on a winter evening.

 DVDFILE.COM: Interview with Jeannot Szwarc
Born and raised in Paris, France, Szwarc first came to recognition with American audiences with his early television work, directing such series as Kojak, Night Gallery and Columbia.
Szwarc then went on to a prolific career in the 70s and 80s, directing such big-budget vehicles Jaws 2, Supergirl, Enigma and Santa Claus The Movie.
Then the 90s and up to today, Szwarc directed some films in his native France, and returned to American, television, directing some of the biggest series on television, including The Practice, Providence and The Twilight Zone.

 JAWS 2 - DVD
From Chief Brody's entrance, set to a high-school band's instrumental rendition of "Downtown," there is a subtle anxiety conveyed by his movements, and as the character grows panicked and obsessive, Scheider begins to support the movie on his shoulders with illusory effortlessness.
Szwarc is respectful and ambitious, even when he's not up to the task.
Sadly, Scheider is AWOL from another Jaws doc, though Szwarc reveals that it took awhile for the star to recapture his inner Brody.

This is even more surprising considering the sheer amount of teenage characters they had to write for, and it was only upon Szwarc's insistence that their characters had to be fleshed out in order for them to appear like real people, that the film's last half hour or so actually succeeds.
They were cut due to time constraints, as Szwarc mentions that they probably interupted the pace of the film too much, but they're scenes that work well and would in my opinion have added to the character interplay more, especially when it comes to the firining of Brody later in the film.
The best deleted scene though, has to be the attack underwater on the pilot of the helicopter, which for me should definitely have been kept in the film as it rivals the intensity of the "cage" scene from the original.

 Jeannot Szwarc
French-born Jeannot Szwarc is one of the more competent action film directors to emerge in the '70s.
Beginning with the William Castle-produced Bug (1975), Szwarc has shown a good commercial edge, which was only enhanced by regular work as a director on the television series Kojak during the mid '70s, where the director's style was finely honed.
Jaws 2 (1978), although nowhere in league with Steven Spielberg's original, was the most respectable and appreciated of the many sequels to that original, and Somewhere in Time (1980) was one of the most thoughtful science-fiction/fantasy films of the period, and has developed a considerable cult following.

JEANNOT SZWARC in a photo taken on Feb. 27, 2000 after recording the Commentary for the DVD release.
They all started laughing and said Jeannot there hasn’t been 21 consecutive days of good weather since England existed.
Even the trailer made it seem too much like Superman and I told them that the audience is going to be disappointed if they go in expecting what they saw in Superman.

Director - Jeannot Szwarc, Screenplay - William Castle and Thomas Page, Based on the Novel The Hephaestus Plague by Page, Producer - Castle, Photography - Michael Hugo, Insect Photography - Ken Middleham, Music - Charles Fox, Special Effects - Phil Cory and Walter Dion, Art Direction - Jack Martin Smith.
Castle and Szwarc revisit with considerable verve the type of film that was the staple of the genre during the 1950s.
And thanks to Szwarc's luminously eerie framing, the particular scene with the bugs forming words instead becomes a moment of genuinely eerie horror.

Jeannot Szwarc then took the helms—and gave us the film that was released in theatersÂ…the ‘teens in peril’ monster movie Universal wanted.
Szwarc takes the easy way out, cramming Bruce in our face at every opportunity—but, to be honest, this is probably what most audiences wanted anyway.
Simply having dialogue scenes is not synonymous with having character development scenes, but Szwarc and crew don’t seem to realize that.

The French-born Jeannot Szwarc honed his craft on TV, helming episodes of numerous series before segueing to the big screen.
His features have often been overshadowed by similarly-themed movies, but his "Somewhere in Time" (1980) has developed a cult following.
In the late nineties, Szwarc made an enormous comeback returning to television, directing such shows as hit TV series "Ally McBeal", "The Practice", "JAG"(all 1999-2001), and "Providence" (1999-2000)....

Besides the fact that director Jeannot Szwarc takes an impersonal, workaday approach to the film, Jaws 2 manages to be both stylistically flat and openly cynical about its commercial intentions.
The film, directed by Jeannot Szwarc (Enigma, Somewhere In Time, The Bug) while not as good as the first, is still not a bad sequel.
There's not as much gore in this one as in the last and while that's not a bad thing, some of the shark attack scenes lose some of their realism due to the lack of it.

ToxicUniverse.com - Jeannot Szwarc - 1978 - Jaws 2 Movies Review
Jaws 2 was released in June of 1978, predating Carpenter’s Halloween (a film largely credited with starting the slasher boom and establishing the fact that the virginal heroines lived, etc.) by several months and Sean Cunningham’s Friday the 13th by two years.
So, in some ways, Jaws 2 has to be considered as one of the forefathers of the slasher canon, and Jeannot Szwarc as one of the early directors whose work influenced the field.
