SIR RICHARD CLAVERHOUSE JEBB (1841-1905), English classical scholar, was born at Dundee on the 27th of August 1841.
Jebb was acknowledged to be one of the most brilliant classical scholars of his time, a humanist in the best sense, and his powers of translation from and into the classical languages were unrivalled.
A selection from his Essays and Addresses, and a subsequent volume, Life and Letters of Sir Richard Claverhouse Jebb (with critical introduction by A. Verrall) were published by his widow in 1907; see also an appreciative notice by J. Sandys, Hist.

Richard Jebb (1874–25 June 1953) was an English journalist and author in the field of Empire and colonial nationalism.
He was the nephew of the classical scholar and politician, Sir Richard Claverhouse Jebb.
During the First World War, Jebb was a captain in the King's Shropshire Light Infantry, spending most of the war in England, serving as an instructor.

Sir Richard Claverhouse Jebb (1841-1905) was a Greek scholar and Professor of Greek at the University of Glasgow 1875-1889.
Born in Dundee, Jebb was educated at the University of Cambridge, where he established a reputation as a Greek scholar.
In 1889 Jebb was appointed Professor of Greek at the University of Cambridge, a post which he held until his death in 1905.

His father was a landowner in Wales and Shropshire and his uncle, Sir Richard Claverhouse Jebb, was a renowned classical scholar, historian and MP - the identities of the two Richards were sometimes confused.
In 1911 Jebb published the two-volume The Imperial Conference (the Jebb Papers include a draft of a third volume), in which he argued for the need to turn the conference into a permanent body to develop foreign and economic policy.
Richard Jebb died in Ellesmere on 25 June 1953.
