BudoSeek! Martial Arts Community Forums - What is Jeet Kun Do?
Jeet kune do is a mindset free from established patterns.
Orginally JKD is a concept, basically be free from a system, study and take what works for you from every system that way you are the best fighter you can be, well at least in terms of technique, ther is more to fighting than that.
Schools of Jeet Kune Do do not have regimented lessons that are taught, rather the instructor's objective is to show the student the paths they can take to developing their own style.

Jeet kun do means “the way of the intercepting fist.” Bruce Lee developed the techniques shortly after he became a big Hollywood star.
In his journal dubbed “The Tao of Jeet Kun Do,” Lee wrote that followers of the classical style are being “controlled and enclosed within the style’s limitation,” which he said is much less than the follower’s potential.
Jeet kun do came in handy for Perico’s 21-year-old assistant instructor, Joaquin Posadas.

Jeet Kune Do has now degenerated into a strange tangle of wrestling, joint locking and floor fighting that resembles a groupsex orgy more than an effective fighting system, but if you go back to what Bruce Lee was talking about, it was simple and logical.

JKD really has no form; Bruce Lee was very practical in that he encouraged people to use what worked for them.
Your JKD friend will probably fight very unorthodox and if he is worth his salt as a training partner, he will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of what he is doing so that you can leanr to defend against and apply said techniques.
JKD is not a hodge podge martial art, so not everything works within it's frame work all the time.

Created by the legendary Bruce Lee, Jeet Kun Do is a martial arts concept comprised of two main aspects: Jeet Kun Do - the fighting system and Jeet Kun Do - the philosophical system.
Lee went on to publish many books on the philosophy of Jeet Kun Do, emphasizing his perspective that the best fighter is someone who can adapt, change and manipulate their own fighting style to meet their opponents.
Lee focused on the symbology of water to describe Jeet Kun Do - a style that flows and changes, takes the path of least resistance and expands and shrinks to fit efficiently into any space.
