Jim Street, of MLB.com, reports free agent RP Jeff Nelson (Rangers), who is expected to sign a minor league deal with the Seattle Mariners as soon as Monday, Jan. 31, is healthy after various injuries limited him to 29 appearances in 2004.
Updating previous items, the Associated Press reports Texas Rangers RP Jeff Nelson is due to go on trial Tuesday, Oct. 26, in a case stemming from a 2003 brawl involving Nelson and free agent OF Karim Garcia, then both with the New York Yankees, with Paul Williams, a Fenway Park groundskeeper, during the 2003 ALCS.
Nelson did not appear at the hearing, as required, and was assessed $500 in court costs, said David Procopio, spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.
