  Eric Hilliard "Ricky" Nelson - Rick Nelson
Born in Teaneck, New Jersey, he was the youngest son of Ozzie Nelson, the leader of a big band, and Harriet Hilliard Nelson, the band's singer.
Along with brother David Nelson, the family starred in the long-running radio and television series The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet from 1944 to 1966; until 1949, the sons were played on radio by professional actors.
He was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, and also to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

After Nelson graduated from high school, he joined the United States Air Force, but soon had to be discharged due to back problems.
Nelson had not given up singing in clubs and by 1956, he had decided to record some music.
Nelson continued on in the 1980's and had a 1982 hit with Elvis Presley's "Always on My Mind." Like many musicians, Nelson also took up acting and appeared in an assortment of films including "The Electric Horseman" and "Honeysuckle Rose" that featured his hit song "On the Road Again" (1983).

Some great rock and roll is being made (Chuck Prophet's own discs as well as his one-shot group, Raisins in the Sun, are simply two more fine examples), and while radio hasn't taken the bait yet, it could.
Still, as musicians and music fans and most other people on the planet grapple to deal with the events and the aftermath of Sept. 11 it's plain there's solace to be found in making and experiencing music.
