This was an enormous county, including the northern part of New York State as well as all of the present State of Vermont and, in theory, extending westward to the Pacific Ocean.
The eastern boundary of Tryon County was approximately five miles west of the present city of Schenectady, and the county included the western part of the Adirondack Mountains and the area west of the West Branch of the Delaware River.
Jefferson County is on the western side of northern New York State, adjacent to the area where the Saint Lawrence River enters Lake Ontario.

I am receipt of your Aug. 21 letter on behalf of county clerk JoAnn Wilder in regard to my FOIL request seeking copies of the oaths of office and undertakings of the town, village and city court justices of Jefferson County as well as the judges of the county, family and surrogates court.
Although no notice of the vacancies is required to be given, with this letter you have now been given notice and under County Law 400, the county clerk is required to make the proper notifications to the town, village and city court clerks and to the governor in the case of the county court judges.
It would be expected that Jefferson County and its towns, villages and city not only take the proper and lawful steps to fill the vacancies.
