A son, Alexis, was born in 1798, and was sent to school in Montreal for a few years, eventually becoming the American Fur Company agent at Mendota (MN), and was elected to the first Minnesota territorial legislature; the couple had at least five more children, then separated before 1810.
During the 1812 war he was arrested by American troups for recruiting Indian warriors for the British, was detained for three months, then released on parole; before the close of the war he commanded a party of Indians in three engagements against the Americans.
