WASHINGTON (Dow Jones/AP) -- The salary of Amazon.com Inc.'s top executive Jeffrey Bezos remained at $81,840 in 2002 -- a tiny sum in the world of CEO pay -- and he received no other compensation during the year, according to a proxy statement released by the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday.
The 39-year-old Bezos, who founded the Seattle-based Internet retailer, declined additional compensation last year due to his substantial ownership in the company, which the proxy indicated was about 28 percent.
Bezos' approximately 108 million Amazon.com shares are valued at about $2.8 billion, based on the company's closing share price of $25.67 Thursday on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
