  Jeffrey Ashby - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jeffrey Shears Ashby (born June 1954) is an American astronaut and a veteran of three space shuttle missions.
As a test pilot in the United States Navy, Ashby helped develop the FA-18 aircraft and flew the FA-18 in combat missions as part of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Southern Watch during and after the Gulf War and as part of Operation Continue Hope in Somalia.
Ashby was selected as an astronaut candidate in 1994; he piloted space shuttle mission STS-93 in 1999 and STS-100 in 2001 and commanded mission STS-112.

Collins was the pilot on the STS-63 mission in February, 1995 and the STS-84 mission in May, 1997.
Ashby will be responsible for key shuttle systems during launch and landing, will lead any in-flight maintenance work which may be required and would serve as overall coordinator for any unplanned spacewalk which might be required.

Commander Kent V. Rominger and Pilot Jeffrey S. Ashby brought Endeavour and her international crew to a safe landing at Edwards Air Force Base, CA, today after an 11-day, 4.9 million-mile mission to the International Space Station.
Pilot Jeff Ashby performed a fly-around of the Station after the separation burn, while cosmonaut Yuri Lonchakov filmed it with an Imax camera in the payload bay.
Prior to the start of the space walk, Ashby used the shuttle arm to lift the pallet containing the Canadarm2, which is also known as the Space Station Remote Manipulator System, out of Endeavour’s payload bay.
