The pope refuses to absolve Jehan: if he had only committed rape, he could be forgiven; but the act of murder is not forgivable.
Jehan's subsequent visit to a hermit leads to the same failure, as the latter can do no more than the pope.
The huntsmen say to the king: 1675 "Lord, it is indeed obvious, As you can see for yourself, That this creature is built like a man." As if Jehan was a dead animal, They now turn him over 1680 To show the natural member That every man is born with.

 Names of large numbers
The words "bymillions" and "trimillions" were first recorded in 1475 in a work by Jehan Adam.
From the way in which Adam and Chuquet use the words, it can be inferred that they were recording usage rather than inventing it.
One obvious possibility is that words similar to "billion" and "trillion" were already in use and well-known, but that Chuquet, an expert in exponentiation, did extend the naming scheme and invent the names for the higher powers.

ORB -- Songs in Fixed Forms
Some experiments with dance-songs using polyphonic texture took place in the late 13th century: the songs of Adam de la Halle, for instance, which are in simple note-against-note style and are notated in score; and one three-part, homophonic rondeau [4] by Jehan de Lescurel.
The polyphonic texture of the mid-14th century songs, however, owed more to the complex motet and chace than to Adam and Jehan.
As pointed out in Earp, 1991, Jehan's melodic and rhythmic style are too elaborate to be comfortable for actual dancing.

Jun 3 2005, 09:14 PM On the other hand, it has been announced that one billion is in fact a million of a million, (1,000,000 to the power of two, hence the name billion), whilst one trillion is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000.
Please, in 1475 Jehan Adam didn't record the words "bymillion" and "trimillion" for nothing! In fact, if you must refer to such a preposterous number, use the appellation "one milliard" for your attempt at one million, and "one billiard" for "one quadrillion".
