It could however be supposed that the tribute received from Jehoash of Samaria [Rimah Stele], was instead received from Joash of Judah, and the biblical redactors incorrectly identified the Syrians instead of the Assyrians [2 Chronicles.24:23].
While the 'King's Calendar' commences Jehoash of Israel's reign in 807 BCE and Bright commences it in 802 BCE, and irrespective of whether Ben-Hadad's defeat occurred in 802 or 796 BCE, it is clear that it was Jehoash and not his father Jehoahaz who recovered lost territory from Ben-Hadad after his defeat.
Jehoash of Israel, defeated Amaziah, took him captive, broke down 400 cubits of Jerusalem's wall, and plundered the Temple and the treasury.

In regard to the latter, Amihai Mazar and Israel Finkelstein represent the leading lights in a debate regarding the nature and chronology of the United Monarchy.

If this is not the case, I have a simple solution: let two or three witnesses (aside from the biblical text) be called and testify to what they have seen and heard or else admit the hearsay nature of the evidence and dismiss the case called Historical Ancient Israel as unfounded.
Although the fragments are broken, the names have been identified with Jehoram, son of Ahab and king of Israel, and Ahaziah, a king from the house of David.
Mesha ruled in the 9th century B.C. Mesha had been paying tribute to Israel since the days of Omri but after the death of Ahab, Omri’s son, he rebelled and reconquered several cities that were under Israelite control, including the city of Horonen, which was under the control of the house of David.

Written in Aramaic, the stela was engraved in alphabetic script on a large stone that had been smoothed for writing.
The stela was smashed in ancient times, and its fragments were found scattered throughout the archaeological site.
Based upon their location, it appears that the stela had already been destroyed by the early eighth century B.C.E. It was probably smashed by Jehoash, Jehu's grandson, who battled the Arameans and attacked Ben Haddad son of Hazael three times.

A stone-work stela of the Assyrian king Adad-nirari III (811-782/3) from Tell er-Rimah in Iraq mentions tribute being paid by Jehoash, a king of Israel.
The Assyrian influence over Syria under Adad-nirari and the fact that Damascus and Hamath were returned to fighting one another instead of turning any aggressive attention to Israel was probably a tremendous relief to the Israelites (2Kings 13.5: "The Lord (Yahweh) gave Israel a savior,..").
Then it became possible for Israel under Jehoash to recover the cities he had lost, but by this time Hazael had died and Ben-hadad, his son, Ben-hadad III, called Mari on the monuments, had become king in his stead (2Kings 13:24,25).
