		Jelle Zijlstra werd op 27 augustus 1918 geboren in een gereformeerd boerengezin in het Friese Oosterbierum.
		Zijlstra volgde de MULO en de HBS in Harlingen en studeerde economie in Rotterdam (1937-1942), waar hij na 1945 assistent en lector was; na zijn promotie in 1948 werd hij hoogleraar theoretische economie aan de Vrije Universiteit te Amsterdam.
		Zijlstra bleef minister van Economische Zaken in het vierde kabinet-Drees (1956-1958) en het tweede kabinet- Beel (1958-1959).

		Uiteraard is het nooit de bedoeling geweest van Zijlstra dat deze informatie op grote schaal bekend zou worden, het was tenslotte voor intimi bestemd.
		Het kan natuurlijk dat iemand anders dit Hyves-profiel heeft aangemaakt om Jelle Zijlstra in een kwaad daglicht te stellen.

	ZIJLSTRA CRITICIZES U.S. - New York Times
		Jelle Zijlstra, chairman of the B.I.S. and head of the Dutch central bank, today termed the Federal Reserve's policy on interest rates perverse.
		Zijlstra also said that representatives of the Fed had expressed willingness to discuss problems arising from American experiments in tighter short-term control of the money supply.
		He said that the volatility arising from the American policy was also harmful, and that he opposed attempts to achieve monetary goals over periods of less than a year.
