Jellyfish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jellyfish are marine invertebrates belonging to the Scyphozoan class, and in turn the phylum Cnidaria.
Jellyfish also have ocelli that cannot form images, but are sensitive to light; the jellyfish can use these to determine up from down, basing its judgement on sunlight shining on the surface of the water.
Chilled jellyfish arm (often known as sesame jellyfish or jellyfish salad) is a common type of appetizer in the Shanghai-style Chinese cuisine, which is often served with sesame seeds, sesame oil and, occasionally, spring onion.

Jellyfish (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
San Francisco's short-lived power pop band Jellyfish was a project of drummer/singer/songwriter Andy Sturmer, keyboard player/multi-instrumentalist Roger Joseph Manning Jr., "Band Witchdoctor and Mime" Chris Manning (who is Roger Joseph Manning Jr's brother who joined the band as bass-player upon the completion of Bellybutton) and guitarist Jason Falkner.
Roger Joseph Manning Jr also mentioned that, while searching for a guitar player for Jellyfish, they only contacted people through ads in which XTC was mentioned as an influence.
After leaving Jellyfish, Jason Falkner joined with other disillusioned pop musicians Jon Brion, Buddy Judge and Dan McCarroll (the latter three best known for their work with Aimee Mann) in a band called The Grays.

This US band from San Francisco broke into the '90s by brilliantly re-packaging the most gaudy elements of the '60s and '70s pop with irresistible kitsch appeal.

Jellyfish has been touring Europe and America to promote its exquisite second album, ''Spilt Milk,'' so the show was a homecoming party for the San Francisco quartet -- the Andy Sturmer/Roger Manning songwriting duo, augmented by bass player Tim Smith an d lead guitarist Eric Dover.
The band's music is a compendium of fluffy, endearing pop-rock that stretches from the Beatles and Beach Boys, through other equally tuneful ensembles such as the Hollies and the Move, to Queen, Supertramp and beyond.
Considering the sheer musical prowess and the overwhelming cuteness that the band conveys, it is the sort of perfectly unthreatening, willfully retro rock outfit that may very well encourage shrieking mania among the teenyboppers of the Far East and conjure memories of Japanese Beatlemania.

Rhizostomae Jellyfish (also called ''jellies'' or ''sea jellies'' as they are not true fish) are animals that belong to Phylum Cnidaria, included in the class Scyphozoa (from Greek ''skyphos'' "cup" and ''zoon'' "animal").
San Fransico's short-lived power pop band Jellyfish was a project of drummer/singer/songwriter Andy Sturmer, keyboard player/multi-instrumentalist Roger Joseph Manning Jr., "Band Witchdoctor and Mime" Chris Manning (who has been credited as a bass player) and guitarist/bassist Jason Falkner.
There has been some theory in that these jellyfish actively hunt their prey—for effective hunting they move extremely fast (moving at speeds up to 3-3 1/2 knots (1.5 to 1.8 m/s)), and have an active visual system of 48 eyes located on the center of each side of the cubozoan's bell.

While it's not a load of material, Jellyfish's 10cc meets Queen style was both influential and commercially viable during their brief time together.
Whittled down to a trio (guitar player Jason Falkner left shortly after the band's first tour to produce his own brand of power pop), Sturmer and Manning hold it together although the sound is a bit thinner and the inspiration a bit forced.

A one-time member of the West Coast neo-psychedelic bands the Three O'Clock and Jellyfish, Jason Falkner went out on his own by 1996, playing jagged power pop with impeccable arrangements, a clue to both his classically trained childhood and additional time spent working on the first LP by another classical popster, Eric Matthews.
Though the group gained recognition in alternative circles and released a pleasing debut album, Falkner was unhappy with his role in the band, that of guitarist (and not much else), so he left the band after the one album.
Vowing to never play in another band again, he bent the promise not long after by joining the loose collective known as the Grays, four musicians who hated the confines of most groups and thus decided to do everything in their power to avoid the pitfalls.
