 History of the Poem
Joseph was born in 1932 and wrote the poem in 1961.
On one of Jenny Joseph's trips to California to meet with Elizabeth Lucas, she was also invited to take part in Long Beach's Literary Women's Day and Jenny was honored for her poem as well as for being the first writer from abroad.
A year or two later she read the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph, which depicts an older woman in purple clothing with a red hat.
