		Abbey, Dr. Nelson R. According to 1860 Clarkston census records Nelson was born in 1820 in New York.
		Jeremiah was Independence Township Supervisor, 1838-39 and 1843-44, Justice of the Peace in 1845 and a representative in the State Legislature in 1838 and 1841.
		Nelson and brother, Jeremiah, purchased the Clarkston lumber mill from Butler Holcomb in 1838 and building a grist mill on the property by 1839.

		It was named for the two settlers who did the most to improve the town, Jeremiah and Nelson Clark.
