Miller, who started Jabber.org in 1998 as the open-source breeding ground for Denver-based Jabber.com and the free Jabber software, compares today's lack of interoperability to the late 1980s and early 1990s when CompuServe, America Online and Prodigy forced everyone to have an e-mail account with them to send e-mail to their users.
Miller says that Yahoo!, which recently changed its authentification protocol, is indecisively in the middle of the switchover, while America Online is vehemently against the idea and doesn't want to attach itself to third-party software.

I could imagine that such a libjua (Jabber Util Apr) could be useful for others, for example as a building block for a new attempt to mod_jabber (which I won't do, right now; the 'old' mod_jabber by Jeremie Miller seems to be stalled).
If not possible, or if it's an inappropriately big bureaucratic afford I will resort to the mod_jabber stuff, although I think it is much less well tested.
I've seen that Jeremie Miller has put his mod_jabber prototype under this license and the Apache people seem to be a bit picky about licenses (at least about the GPL) in their software.
