Five Horizons: August 1999 Song X - Jeremy
The press is fond of modifying their telling of the "Jeremy" song and video story, twisting it such that Jeremy shoots his classmates perhaps thus ferreting out a more solid hook for paralleling the song to the school shootings.
The song was probably first performed acoustically at the now-legendary February 19, 1992 show at Switzerland's Albani Bar of Music, when PJ found themselves in a situation with a miniscule stage and rented acoustic instruments.
Jeremy spoke in class today Jeremy spoke in class today clearly I remember...picking on the boy...seemed a harmless little fuck...but we unleashed a lion...gnashed his teeth, bit the recess ladies breast...

Jeremy (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One of their first singles, the song was inspired by a newspaper article about a boy named Jeremy Wade Delle from Richardson, Texas who shot himself in front of his high school English class on the morning of January 8, 1991.
Jeremy is shown standing, arms raised in a V (as described in the lyrics at the beginning of the song), in front of a wall of billowing flames.
He did film a scene where Jeremy is shown putting the gun in his mouth (this footage was edited with a zoom effect for the MTV version of the video, to remove the gun from the picture) as well as a slightly different take of the classroom Pledge of Allegiance sequence.

Understanding Song Form - Jeremy Steinkoler
In my experience, the two things most important to learning new songs quickly are understanding the song form, and learning the proper feel, or “getting into character.” I’ll tackle the latter concept in the next article.
Think of knowing song forms like knowing the driving route from A to B (from the beginning of the song to the end).
The intro of the song may be played by any number of instruments, from one instrument to the entire band.

 Pearl Jam - Jeremy
The last place Jeremy needed to be was isolation but that was where he was put, and he was placed in there for a period of time longer than many, many students.
I mention all of this because Jeremy was put in ISS shortly after transferring to RHS mid-year after his locker was searched, and had been in ISS for over a month when he walked into Faye Barnett's classroom.
The fact that Jeremy committed this harm to himself and Pearl Jam made sure the world knew both Jeremy's story and his pain has, I believe, possibly helped others to deal with their own demons and the threat of taking potentially similar paths.
