New owners in control of the path to the state's highest point, Jerimoth Hill in Foster, have expanded access to what has been called the most elusive state high point in the country.
Alaska's Mount McKinley, at 20,320 feet, is the highest high point, and the hardest to climb, too, according to a 2001 interview with Henri Butler, a native of Glocester and the first person from Rhode Island on record to climb all 50 state high points.
Hikers planning to scale Jerimoth Hill should carry enough supplies and survival gear to last, at minimum, four minutes for a round-trip hike.
