Jerkiness is defined in ANSI T1.801.02-1996 as "Motion that was originally smooth and continuous is perceived as a series of distinct snapshots."
The series of video frames below illustrate the use of the lost motion energy parameter and the percent repeated frames parameter in ANSI T1.801.03-1996 for measuring the jerkiness impairment.
A sequence of input video frames are shown together with their computed temporal information (TI) images.

The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com) - jerkiness on cold days
The jerkiness actually goes away (or is at least barely noticable) under heavier accelleration.
After doing a little experimentation, I found that although it was possible for the jerkiness to cause my physical body to start to oscillate in the front seat, and therefore start a positive-feedback loop making the oscillations worse, that was *not* the normal cause of the problem.
Seems that the colder it is, the worse the jerkiness.

 DriverHeaven.net - 4x.xx Detonators and SOF2 w/ Compressed Textures OFF
This jerkiness is noticable sometimes right away and sometimes it's not really apparent until several maps have been loaded into the system memory.
However, lately I sill notice a little bit of this jerkiness even with compressed textures turned ON which is why I'm still concerned and bothered by this problem.
Granted, the jerkiness is not as bad as it is when compressed textures are turned OFF but it's still apparent nonetheless.

'05 CVT... anyone have theirs yet? - MINI2   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Unfortunately jerkiness may very well be in the nature of the mechanics of the transmission.
In order to avoid jerkiness, you have to be fairly sure-footed and steady on the gas pedal.
I also noticed that if you use the steptronic mode on the transmission, which uses preset fixed ratios, you don't get the same jerky effect, so without coming out with a transmission capable of reacting to your thoughts (faster than your nerves to your foot), it'll be hard to completely remove that tendency.
