Immortal Beloved   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The film is framed around a 'Rosebud'-type letter found after the composer's death that makes up the crux of the story.
Jeroen Krabbandeacute; (The Fugitive), playing Beethoven's lifelong friend, attempts to discover who Beethoven's muse really was, becoming as driven as his friend in discovering the unlikely identity of the composer's 'immortal beloved.' Through this we gain an insight into the nature of obsession, romance, and the heights and sacrifices of artistic achievement.
The film exhibits some extraordinary sound design, and the finale features a magical encapsulation of Beethoven's life and loves set to his 'Ode to Joy.' As an exciting and passionate journey, Immortal Beloved is its own masterpiece.

For a Lost Soldier Review Movie Review Film For a Lost Soldier: Maarten Smit, Jeroen Krabb?, Andrew Kelley, Freark ...
But child actor Maarten Smit all but blows Brooke Shields out of the water with his quietly understated performance as Jeroen, a young child whose life growing up in the Netherlands is forever changed in the aftermath of World War II.
Having been sent by his mother from his home in Amsterdam to a foster home in the countryside, where food is more plentiful, Jeroen finds himself in surroundings that are cold and indifferent to him, despite the best efforts of his "parents" to try and welcome him.
I've heard various comments from some viewers who lament over the film's inability to capture the source novel's examinations of how the adult Walt more often than not uses Jeroen for his own personal pleasures, knowing full well that their time together is limited.

This savage comedy shocker could well be seen as a trial run for Basic Instinct, since it features an ice-cold seductress (Renée Soutendijk) with mysterious motivations and sexual preferences.
The hallucinatory tale follows a novelist (Jeroen Krabbé) first falling for her, and then feverishly investigating whether she's a serial husband killer.
The film is full of what would soon be recognized as Verhoeven trademarks: a little blasphemy, a lot of nudity, dispassionate characters, and hidden agendas.
