A few years later, Harrison joined bassist Bootsy Collins in a hip-hop groove for the "5 Minutes" 12-inch, a found-sound dance record (in three mixes) that uses Reagan's notorious "We begin bombing..." extemporization.
Harrison's second album, Casual Gods, leads with its chin: the cover and inner sleeve photos show hordes of poor Brazilians working under horrendous conditions as goldminers.
Harrison, who's not a bad singer (his voice sounds a bit like John Cale's), doesn't write songs so much as techno grooves with sketchy melodies; his accomplished cohorts play with chops but little feeling.

Jerry Harrison - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jerry Harrison (born February 21, 1949) was the keyboardist and guitarist for the influential New Wave group Talking Heads.
Harrison was the last of the four Talking Heads members to join; they already had a single out by the time he left the Modern Lovers to join them.
After the breakup of Talking Heads, Harrison turned to producing and has helmed numerous successful albums by such groups as The Violent Femmes, Foo Fighters, General Public, Live, Crash Test Dummies, The Verve Pipe, Rusted Root, and No Doubt.

Jerry Harrison : The Red and the Black - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Jerry Harrison, no musical novice by any stretch (check out his work with the early Modern Lovers), proves his formidable talent as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter for the first time in this close-up.
This is reflected most immediately in Harrison's no-nonsense pep talks that pop up in the middle of a few songs, just when the intensifying rhythms and synth lines become almost too cacophonous to bear.
Not surprisingly given Harrison's brainy and self-conscious approach, the singers add little soul, but serve rather as a Greek chorus, repeating Harrison's lyrical motifs and bringing substantial drama to his already tense and paranoid compositions.

Harrison's career as a professional musician was finally launched in 1971 as a result of his association with Jonathan Richman - although it was prevented from getting properly underway until several years later for this same reason.
During a break from band activity in 1981, Harrison recorded his first solo effort The Red and the Black, an album which featured contributions from guitarist Adrian Belew, former P-Funk keyboardist Bernie Worrell and vocalist Nona Hendryx (all participants in the expanded Heads line-up that had recorded Remain in Light).
During this period Harrison also launched a parallel career as a record producer, helming sessions for The Blind Leading the Naked by The Violent Femmes, Milwaukee by Elliott Murphy, and producing several tracks for the Jonathan Demme film Something Wild (all three of which took place between 1985 and 1986).

Harrison brings his political activism to the fore, too, most notably in "I Cry for Iran" and "Cowboy's Got to Go." Unfortunately, the lyrics come across heavy-handed and lack personality, hardly benefiting from the sparser production.

Harrison, however, was something of an anonymous figure within the band, lacking an independent reputation as a performer.
Harrison (like Weymouth) was frequently overshadowed by guest performers in the Heads network, and was never the most recognizable guitarist or keyboardist in any event.
Few enthusiasts of the group, I suspect, would be able to pinpoint many specific moments as highlights of Harrison's tenure within the group -- he contributed well enough to the overall sound of the group, but was otherwise something of a faceless character in their recorded history.
