Scott Kurtz of PvP, Jerry Holkins and Mike "Gabe" Krahulik of Penny Arcade were emailed on several occasions asking them to participate in the film, but they never responded.
An interesting paradox of celebrity is that the more famous you become the more other people want to give their time and attention to you, but in turn you become less able to give time and attention to each of your fans.
Kurtz, Holkins and Krahulik claim to be earning a good income with this approach – although I suspect their financial success may be somewhat overstated.

A valid assumption, were it not for the fact that Mike and Jerry are in a very real sense, predators, and view such attempts at appeasement as a sign of weakness.
It is this ability to disregard the established protocols and morés of civilization, to openly portray themselves as feral, ruthless creatures unafraid to stalk freely through the corridors of the powerful, turning upon those who would seek to use them, that gain and keep them their ever growing legion of followers.

You know. For kids. | MetaFilter
October 18, 2004 6:44 PM Child's Play Returns: Last year, Penny Arcade's Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins got sick of gamers being portrayed as violence-drenched dweebs and asked their readers to pitch in for a toy drive for Seattle's childrens' hospital.
This year, they've added four more childrens' hospitals to their list for their readers to support during the holiday season.
Mike and Jerry originally did this as a way to rebut the perception of gamers, but it also shows the power of personal credibility with regards to Web sites -- the people who contributed didn't just do it to redeem the image of gamers, they did it because Mike and Jerry asked them to.
