Jerry Zucker - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jerry Zucker (born March 11, 1950 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) is an American movie director best known for his role in directing comedy spoof films.
Like his brother David Zucker, Jerry often casts his mother Charlotte Zucker in small roles in his films.
Recent directorial stints of Zucker's include the 2001 film Rat Race (which re-teamed him with Ghost star Whoopi Goldberg).

 Having a ball LJWorld.com
Jerry Zucker is NOT interested in remaking "Cannonball Run" or "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World." Even though his new movie, "Rat Race," was conceived as a throwback to those star-studded chase comedies, the veteran director-producer had something else in mind entirely when the project came his way.
One of the Lucys is Zucker's mom, Charlotte, who has appeared in nearly all of her son's films, including his first feature, "The Kentucky Fried Movie," and the 1980 classic "Airplane!" That film made Zucker, his brother David, and their friend Jim Abrahams into legends among fans of their loony, non sequitur humor.
Zucker does point out, however, that his current project has little in common with his earlier films.

 Amazon.co.uk: Rat Race [2002]: Video
Zucker is quite probably the best director for oddball comedy, but that's pretty much all you're going to get, some very stupid situation comedy, which is very low down on the intellectual scale, but still just as funny.
Incidents along the way are typical Zucker with such nonsense as Jon Lovitz's Jewish family crashing into a WW2 veterans conference in Hitler's mercedes Benz, a cow dangling from a hot air balloon, Templeton stealing a bus filled with Lucille Ball impresonators, and Pollini dropping a transplant heart out of a moving vehicle.
The other main gripe with the film is the sickeningly sentimental ending, which despite featuring the music of Smash Mouth, still manages to seem very out of place, even if it is conveying a very appropriate message.

Director Jerry Zucker joins cast members Breckin Meyer, Jon Lovitz, Seth Green, Amy Smart and Vince Vieluf to talk about their latest comedic film, Rat Race.
During the 1990s the brothers went their separate ways, at least as directors, with Jerry heading off to helm dramas including Ghost, starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze, as well as the Richard Gere period picture First Knight.
Filmmaking duos such as the Farrelly Brothers and the Weitz Brothers may have taken their place in cinematic history with some of their recent hit movies, they follow in the footsteps, however, of a team that is hailed for their work in broad comedy; the Zucker Brothers.

A student of the Paris Conservatoire, Jarre, who was born in Lyons on September 13, 1924, was the musical director at Paris' Theatre National Populaire in the early 1950s, when he became intrigued with film work.
When Zucker decided to forego parody for romantic fantasy in 1990's Ghost, he engaged Jarre for the score -- and the composer had yet another hit (with the help of Alex North's "Unchained Melody").

 RollingStone.com: First Knight Review
Though director Jerry Zucker is covering old ground in First Knight, the story of how a love betrayed threatens the principles of the Round Table still takes hold.
Whenever Zucker stops piling on battle scenes as if he were directing Braveheart, his film casts a romantic spell.
This time it's Sean Connery as Arthur, the king who finds the honor of his Round Table sullied when he catches Queen Guinevere (Julia Ormond) with first knight Lancelot (Richard Gere).

 'First Knight'
"First Knight" is nevertheless a pretty film, graced with gorgeous sets and filled with pomp (if not circumstance) by director Jerry Zucker of "Ghost." There's even a real knight in the picture—Sir John Gielgud, playing faithful retainer to Julia Ormond's noble Guinevere.
The film contains battle scenes (they seem almost bloodless after the ferocity of "Braveheart") and glancing references to period politics, but "First Knight" is primarily a love story, and a chaste one at that.
A fallen knight who's just plumb wacko, Malagant has decided that the Round Table's just for squares and he'll be hangeth if he's going to put up with this chivalry crap anymore.

Director gets serious on cause close to home
Abrahams, best known for his work with Shorewood buddies David and Jerry Zucker, has never made a message movie before, but he is unapologetically sending one out this time.
The two-hour movie, which marks Abrahams' first film for TV and his first drama, is based on the experience of an actual Midwestern mother whose son's life was threatened by violent epileptic seizures until, over his doctors' protests, she took him to Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore for a controversial nutritional cure.
In a phone interview from his Santa Monica home, Abrahams says he learned of the woman, whose name and home state he has agreed not to reveal, after he wrote about his son Charlie's similar victory over epilepsy with what is known as the ketogenic diet.
