Son of God - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Similar terms were widespread during the life of Jesus, as Roman emperor Augustus was known as the "son" of the deified Julius Caesar.
That "son of God" sometimes means messiah (an anointed person rather than a "godly person") in the New Testament, is also acknowledged in the Bauer lexicon, a dictionary of Koine Greek begun by Walter Bauer.
In the greek and roman cultures in which early Christianity arose, the concepts of a son or a daughter of god, halfgods as Perseus was, where commonly known and accepted, as was the idea of Jesus as a god-and-human, son of God, invented by Paul.

Jesus often met with society's outcasts, such as the publicani (Imperial tax collectors who were despised for extorting money), including the apostle Matthew; when the Pharisees objected to meeting with sinners rather than the righteous, Jesus replied that it was the sick who need a physician, not the healthy (Matthew 9:9–13).

The distinction between Jesus and the coming Son of Man corresponds to the distinction between the kingdom as it is breaking through in Jesus and its final consummation...Jesus could not identify himself with the coming Son of Man, since that figure was to come at the End on the clouds of heaven.
The entire ministry of Jesus, including his suffering and resurrection was oriented towards the establishment of "a kingdom" in which "all people, nations, and languages, should serve him," a "dominion [which] is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and [a] kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Jesus accepted his rightful title of Messiah, though with some reserve because it was understood by some of his contemporaries in too human a sense, as essentially political.
Well before this, Jesus referred to himself as "the Son" who knows the Father, as distinct from the "servants" God had earlier sent to his people; he is superior even to the angels.

The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only the Messenger of God and His Word, which He cast into Mary, and a Spirit from Him.
When Mary returned to her people together with Jesus, her people slandered her with ugly accusations based on speculation, even though they knew her and her dedication, as well as that of her family, to God, and her chastity.

If John was only six months older than Jesus, then why is there a need for such a person to be in existence, particularly since The Almighty had to intervene to create John from an old man and a barren woman (Zachariah and Elizabeth).
Jesus' only defense against the charge of blasphemy when he claimed to be the son of god was; according to the Jewish Laws (Psalms 82:6), those to whom the Word of God came, such were called gods.

When Jesus remarked that Abraham rejoiced to see his day, the Jews retorted: "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?".
If this is true, it is very unlikely that such a fraudulent picture of Jesus could have grown up in one or two decades and been circulated as true while most of the eyewitnesses of his life were still around.

Once officially on track, "Jesus' Son" moves from scene to scene with a method that seems wholly controlled by this main character/narrator, a young man known simply as F--head.
Not surprisingly, "Jesus' Son" is dependent for its success on the portrayal of its central character.

 Salon.com Arts & Entertainment | "Jesus' Son"
Fans of the terse tales of American deadbeat culture gathered in Denis Johnson's 1992 collection "Jesus' Son" have probably wondered how that memorable little book, with its vast internal world of despair and lambent ecstasy, could ever be translated to the movie screen.
It's not that "Jesus' Son" is a bad movie; in fact it has a nobility and modesty, along with a refreshing lack of cynical attitude, that you rarely find in independent films these days.
With its cut-up, back-and-forth structure and downscale 1970s environments, "Jesus' Son" in its weaker moments suggests a barbiturate-driven version of "Pulp Fiction," in which the guns misfire and the cars don't have brakes.

Jesus' Son -- Roger Ebert's Review
It has a sequence as funny as any I've seen this year, and one as harrowing, and it ends in a bittersweet minor key, as it should, because to attach this story to a big climax would be a lie, if not a crime.
The movie's title is not intended to be a literal description of FH ("Jesus' Son" is a line from a Lou Reed song), but I see what it's getting at: A lot of great men have sons who plug away at the family business but just don't have the knack.
FH's story is not a cautionary tale, a parable or a fable.
