Jesus College was founded in 1571, occupying in part the site of the earlier White Hall, which had existed for several hundred years from the 13th century up until 1570, just before Jesus began.
Jesus is located on Turl Street in the centre of Oxford, on a comparatively small site by the standards of many Oxford colleges, and is one of the three Turl Street colleges along with Lincoln College and Exeter College.

A longer term goal of the College is to fund from donations the Fellowship part of the joint University/College posts held by most Tutors.

Administrative/Biographical history: Jesus College, Oxford, was founded in 1571; many of its early benefactors were Welsh, and by 1600 most of the student body came from Wales.
In 1648, Rice Gwynne, heir of the late Thomas Gwynne, fulfilled the latter's wish by presenting the College with the impropriate Rectory of Holyhead, Anglesey, incorporating the curacies of Bodedern, Llandrygarn and Bodwrog.
The College's urban property in Holyhead was in Cambrian Terrace, Boston Street and land at the rear of Newry Fawr Street, Cambria Street, part of Craig Hyfryd, Porthyfelin Road and South Stack Road, most of which was sold between 1924 and 1986.
