doctrine - Information from Reference.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Doctrine, from Latin doctrina (compare doctor), means "a code of beliefs", "a body of teachings" or "instructions", taught principles or positions, as the body of teachings in a branch of knowledge or belief system.
In matters of foreign policy, a doctrine is a body of axioms fundamental to the exercise of a nation's foreign policy.
Doctrines of this sort are almost always presented as the personal creations of one particular political leader, whom they are named after.

Jesus commanded His disciples to "teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19).
Jesus is the name in which the roles of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are revealed.
Then Jesus said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day." The disciples had their understanding opened so that they could grasp the vast importance of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

 Jesus only doctrine
Its supporters believe that there is only one God, but they think that His divinity cannot be divided so that there would be three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, in Him.
This doctrine thus denies the general understanding that in God’s unity the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit have their own personalities.
It is important to note that Jesus says that He is sent by his Father, meaning that there must be a sender and the one who leaves, two different persons.

 Jesus Only - vs Trinity
Jesus prayed to the Father, He was sent BY the Father, He went BACK to the Father, He obeyed the Father and did everything the Father commanded Him, then He sat down at the right hand of the Father.
You must agree, that if you are holding to the "Jesus Only" also called "Oneness" doctrine, and deny the plurality of the Trinity, that you are very much in disagreement with each and all of these Early Chruch Fathers and are trusting a different doctrine than what was taught to the early Christian church.
As the Jesus Only group denies the Father of Jesus, the Jehovah's Witnesses deny the Son of the Father!

 Only Jesus?
The only Jesus or oneness doctrine claims that Jesus is not only the Son but also the Father and the Holy Spirit, he is the only person in the Godhead.
Jesus was praying to the Father to glorify him with the glory which he had with the father before the world was, that means before he was manifested in the flesh.
The interpretation Oneness doctrine followers give to this verse is that unless a person is baptized in water (born of water), and is baptized with the Holy Spirit (with the evidence of speaking in tongues) he/she cannot be saved.

This "Jesus Only Movement", which is in fact not of Jesus, has been making its move to infiltrate and lead astray and away the flocks of other churches with a false spirit renewal, legalistic teaching and a call to pseudo-holiness.
Doctrines of divine incarnation, virgin birth, blood atonement, and resurrection of the dead also have been doctrines among pagans as well as that of a trinity.
The only instances this is not the case is when the words "in the name of Jesus" are used to present authority for a command.

Of late, certain Christian sects have changed the formula of baptism which Jesus had set forth in the Church as seen above, and have started rebaptizing ignorant believers "in the name of Jesus" only, contending that all baptisms recorded in the book of Acts were in Jesus’ name only.
They overlook the fact that the precept ‘at the mouth of three witnesses shall the matter be established’ is intended for the settlement of human disputes only.
So we should not conclude that the words of Jesus in Matthew 28:19 mean nothing, just because they were mentioned only once in the Scriptures.

Part 1: The Early Church Fathers Declared "Oneness" (Sabellianism) Heresy
The Oneness Doctrine appears to be biblical because only Scripture is used, though wrongfully, to support its tenets, declaring that Jesus is not only the Son but also the Father and the Holy Spirit, that is, he is the only person in the Godhead.
In the middle of the third century, Sabellius was excommunicated and declared a heretic because of proposing the idea that there was only one "person" in the Godhead manifesting himself in different offices: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Because it does not set forth Him to be the Son of God only, but also the Son of man; nor does it only say, the Son of man, but it has also been accustomed to speak of Him as the Son of God.
