Jethro Tull (agriculturist) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jethro Tull (born 1674 in Basildon, Berkshire; died 21 February 1741 in Shalbourne, Berkshire) was an English agricultural pioneer during the Industrial Revolution.
Influenced by the early Enlightenment, Tull is considered to be one of the early proponents of a scientific (and especially empirical) approach to agriculture.
Although Tull was wrong that nutrients locked up in soil could be released through pulverising it, and his inventions were sometimes considered controversial and were not widely adopted for many years, on the whole he introduced innovations which formed part of the foundation of productive modern agriculture.

Behind the country hayseed garb, the hick patter, and the outrageous parodies of popular songs, "Jethro" Burns and guitarist Henry "Homer" Haynes were expert jazz musicians whose exaggerated hillbilly appearance and zany sendups of songs belied the cleverness of their comedy and the extraordinarily high quality of their music.
Jethro's music was extremely melodic and graceful, combining elements of jazz, swing, country, folk, and bluegrass, resulting in one of the most distinctive and influential mandolin styles in country music history.
Jethro Burns continued to perform at string music festivals and concerts until his death in 1989.

jethro - International Standard Bible Encyclopedia
It is worth noting that in the religious service in which Jethro and Moses afterward engaged, when Jethro, as priest, offered a burnt offering, and Aaron with all the elders of Israel partook of the sacrificial feast, prominence was given to Jethro over Aaron, and thus a priesthood was recognized beyond the limits of Israel.
Jethro, therefore, urged Moses to make use of the talents of others and adopt a plan of gradation of judges who would dispose of all eases of minor importance, leaving only the most difficult for him to settle by a direct appeal to the will of God.
The story of Jethro reveals him as a man of singular attractiveness and strength, in whom a kind, considerate disposition, a deeply religious spirit, and a wise judgment all met in happy combination.

And so it was that Moses found himself out in the desert wilderness of the Sinai (see The Sinai Peninsula and Bible Places), the first time, long prior to the Exodus, and how he came to meet Reuel, or Jethro, a priest of Midian, who would soon become Moses' father-in-law.
The Midianites originated from Midian, a son of Abraham (Genesis 25:1-2), which therefore actually made Jethro and Moses distant cousins.

Ironically, the first small wave of American Jethro Tull fans were admiring a group whose sound had already changed radically; in May of 1969, Barre's first recording with the group, "Living in the Past," reached the British number three spot and the group made its debut on Top of the Pops performing the song.
Barlow, Evan, and Palmer, however, were dropped from the group's lineup with the recording of A, and the new version of Jethro Tull toured in support of the album.
In 1986, A Classic Case: The London Symphony Orchestra Plays the Music of Jethro Tull was released on record; and Crest of a Knave performed surprisingly well when it was issued in September of 1987, reaching number 19 in England and number 32 in America with the support of a world tour.

Jethro is his official title, meaning his highness, or 'his excellency.' So this man was at once a priest of God and a man of high standing.
As, one evening, they tell their father the story of the day's work and what had happened to them, Jethro shows the kindness of his heart by sending for the stranger they had met with to his house.

Jethro Tull is a progressive rock band that was formed in the 1960s.
Their music is marked by the quirky vocal style and unique lead flute work of frontman Ian Anderson, and by unusual and often complex (for rock music) song construction.
The story goes that the band went through a variety of name changes to get repeat bookings, and that Jethro Tull was the name they happened to sport when they scored a record deal (the name comes from the inventor of the seed drill).
