 Jewellery Quarter Station
Jewellery Quarter station opened in 1995, along with the Hawthorns and Smethwick Galton Bridge, on what was named the 'Jewellery Line', opened with the intention of creating "a third cross city line linking the lines to Worcester and Hereford with those to Stratford-upon-Avon and Leamington Spa" according to Centro.
The station occupies a spot which once housed some of the Hockley goods facilities and is a hundred yards or so away from the site of the old Hockley station proper which, along with the old goods facilities, is dealt with on its own page.
The station is a joint light/heavy rail stop sitting as it does on the Leamington-Kidderminster (via Snow Hill) line and on line 1 of the Midland Metro.

 The Hawthorns Station
The design is reminiscent of all joint light/heavy rail stations on the route: Smethwick Galton bridge and The Jewellery Quarter.
The Hawthorns station opened in 1995 on the 'new' Jewellery Line (or Great Western Railway as I have a feeling it was known) which involved relaying track from Snow Hill along the old GWR route, that had been removed in 1972, up to its link with the ex-GWR line to Kidderminster.
The station sits on part of the site once occupied by The Hawthorns Halt which itself was a late-comer to the region's rail scene, opening as it did under the GWR in 1931 on their line from Snow Hill to Wolverhampton Low Level.

The Jewellery Quarter is seen as an edge of centre location with potential for new housing although generally the City Council resists the loss of industrial land to non-industrial uses.
The biggest issue this month is one of vital importance to the Quarter because it includes ‘residential’ (210 apartments) on land within the Industrial Middle and if permission is granted in direct opposition to the Jewellery Quarter Conservation and Management Plan, it would create a dangerous precedent.
‘The Quarter is unique within the local, national and international context, for its high concentration of craft industry with associated trades in one small area, based in converted 18th and 19th century domestic properties and purpose-built later workshops and factories illustrating the whole history of the development of the industry.

 An introduction to Trainspotting.
You will appreciate the ‘better-ride’ qualities of Turbo trains, know where Jewellery Quarter station is, even though it is not frequented by storming great Grids, and will think that the RES corporate image and stupid logo were really exciting and go ahead.
If this happens to you, you are no longer a trainspotter and neither will you care as you will have become something entirely different, a ‘Railway Enthusiast’ - or to quote the dictionary definition: ‘One who tries to pretend that their love of trains is grown up really’.
Like Corky the Cat putting one over on the water bailiff, it is frequently little more than a harmless bending of some pointless rules, the maintenance of which in many cases benefits no one.
