The Jezreel Valley is south of the Lower Galilee in the North District of Israel.
In the Bible, the Valley of Jezreel lies to the north of Jezreel between the ridges of Gilboa and Moreh, an offshoot of Esdraelon, running east to the Jordan River (Joshua 17:16; Judges 6:33; Hosea 1:5).

Aside from its agricultural significance the Jezreel Valley was an important thoroughfare even in ancient times as it presented an easy route from the ocean in the west to the mountains east of the Jordan River and to Egypt.

Jezreel means "scattered." We can imagine when Hosea first heard the name he thought the Lord had made a mistake, for in Hebrew Jezreel is almost identical both in spelling and in sound to Israel, which means "God perseveres." "Surely the Lord means Israel," Hosea must have thought.
First, there is a political application to the house of Jehu for the massacre at Jezreel.
Jezreel means "scattered." So since Hosea is prophesying not long before the fall of Samaria and the captivity of the people of the northern kingdom in 722 B.C., he is really forecasting the scattering of the Jewish people that began in 722 B.C. and then continued through successive disasters and deportations in the south.
