JHymn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
JHymn provides an easy to use GUI with much added functionality including the ability to add, delete, and update MPEG-4 atoms in file types of M4A, M4B, M4P, and MP4.
A common use of JHymn is to remove FairPlay digital rights management (DRM) restrictions created by FairPlay from files purchased at the iTunes Store.
The JHymn program was coded by an anonymous coder who goes by the nickname FutureProof in the hymn forums.

Hymn (software) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hymn and JHymn will only function with iTunes clients previous to version 6.0; purchasing music with these older versions is still supported by Apple.
The hymn project is currently still working on a fix so that their software will work with iTunes clients 6.0 and later.
JHymn has superseded hymn as the official software of The Hymn Project.

 JHymn Info and Help
JHymn will have to learn how to perform the iTunes 6.0 protocol before this problem is likely to be fixed -- so hang on, it could be a bit of a wait.
JHymn extracts song information such as song title, album name, artist, etc., from AAC files, and creates MP3 files with appropriate ID3 tags to convey this information.
Mac version of JHymn now uses scripted updating of the iTunes Library to create a more thorough break by unlocked files from their locked originals — this can solve some of the problems seen with the release of iTunes 4.7.1 and songs being unplayable and/or deleted from iPods.

 stinner dot com » JHymn
JHymn is a program that can strip the DRM (Digital Rights Management) from an iTunes purchased song.
DRM was designed primarily to prevent music piracy but in exchange made it hard for honest people to have “fair use” of their music.
I found out about JHymn from reading a post over at plastic bugs, which is a blog created by Scott Moschella, who is the line producer for The ScreenSavers.

 OSDir.com
JHymn seems to have done a pretty good job of removing that watermarking, but additional watermarks are cached outside of the protected files themselves, in the iTunes Library database, perhaps on the iPod itself.
The files output by hymn and JHymn are perfectly good AAC files, which should be playable by any player which conforms with the AAC standards.
There are still some potential problems until the next version of JHymn comes out, but some helpful (if somewhat tedious) work-arounds exist in the meantime, which are discussed in the hymn-project.org forums.

JHymn has been a savior to allowing me to share my music amongst my multiple MP3 playing devices - both Apple and non-Apple.
At least while JHymn worked, I was buying albums legally from iTunes and then merely stripping out the DRM so I could listen to them on my Archos AV480.

I have exactly the same problem, and the funny thing is that when I first installed the mp4 codec I could convert one file with no problem, but now I cannot, even the one I had converted before.
I tried then to convert directly to mp3 with JHymn and it went ok this time, but, dBPowerAMP still claims that the file is empty.
I also noted that for the m4a files I'm creating with JHymn, if you check them with "properties" their sizes are not 0, but dBpowerAMP says they are empty.

paraesthesia: JHymn is the new Hymn
It looks as though JHymn is the only supported version of hymn left, at least, according to the hymn forums.
JHymn has a lot more flexibility than hymn did, but doesn't seem to have a command line interface, which makes it difficult to integrate into a script.
That said, it does have functionality to back up your protected music to a new location once it's scrubbed of DRM, so it sort of does what my M4P Backup script did anyway.

The JHymn tool (http://hymn-project.org/) allows you do remove the DRM from iTunes files and, as a side effect, convert them to MP3 format.
Therefore, any attempt to restrict the use of digital files will be ultimately futile, although it may require a bit of effort on the part of users.
In the case of JHymn, the tool makes it about as easy as it could be do de-DRM a set of files.

Based upon the work of Jon Johansen (previously mentioned), JHymn allows the user to scrub the DRM after the music has been bought.
I would also not recommend converting the tracks to MP3, since once an audio file has been compressed, there is no real advantage in changing formats.
This is essential in order to unlock the files so please make sure to input the correct information.
