Jib - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Its tack is fixed to the bowsprit, to the bow, or to the deck between the bowsprit and the foremost mast.
Jibs and spinnakers are the two main types of headsails on a modern yacht.
On cruising yachts, it is common for the innermost jib to be self-tacking, either by using a boom along the foot of the sail, or by cleating the jib sheet to a track, or both.

 Jib Cranes — SPANCO
Jib cranes are an economical solution for moving materials within an individual workstation, for transferring materials from work area to work area, or for use as an auxiliary lifting device under an overhead crane.
Articulating jib cranes are also manufactured by SPANCO for positioning loads in those hard to reach places where most standard jib cranes cannot reach.
The standard capacity rating of a jib crane represents the net rated load of the hook at the hook of a hoist of the same rated capacity as the crane.

Jib "Jackline" System   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
This line from the top of the jib is threaded through the left ring, run behind the jib and then through a clip where the jib sheets attach to the jib.
When I come into the dock, I release the jib halyard and pull on this line and the jib is gathered on the bow in a small "ball" without having to go up on the bow.
The only disadvantage to this method is that the jib (or genoa) is not neatly folded and could cause some sail damage, but I haven't really had a problem yet.

[No title]   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Jib Jab came to a different conclusion, reasoning that its work is a political parody protected by the fair use doctrine.
Regarding parody, Jib Jab's piece "explores exactly the same themes as the Guthrie original, using the parodic device of contrast and juxtaposition to comment on the original." Importantly, says Jib Jab, the parody is readily and objectively perceptible to those who view it.
Jib Jab has the stronger case, based on the limited nature of Ludlow Music's copyright, the fact that the Jib Jab work is indeed a parody, and the weight of relevant fair use factors.

This unit is basically the 12' jib with a six foot extension and a cantilever stabilizer unit added.
Once you mount the jib on the tripod bowl, you can level the heavy duty hub with a bubble level.
The foams' primary purpose is to pad the lower portion of the jib to soften any contact with a crew member or spectator that gets too close to the arm in motion.

 Understanding Jib Sag
Jib sag may be the single most important gear we have on the Lightning to help power-up/depower the rig.
Straightening the headstay (jib luff) through the use of the tools available to us will “reduce” the amount of cloth in the jib, making it flatter and less efficient.
In understanding jib sag and how it relates to your setup, the two most important tools we have to control sag are mainsheet tension and backstay.

Jib Arm Camera Jib Video Camera Crane Jib Arms
Another shot done with a jib arm that you've probably seen is where the camera is focused on two people talking, then they turn and walk away from the camera as the camera raises up in the air to provide a wide shot of them walking away.
I saw your DV Jib Arm in action at a local theater company and I was really impressed by the quality of the construction, the heavy gauge material you are using, easy of use and the price.
That jib was poorly constructed, it would flex with even a 5 pound camera and you couldn't tilt the camera while you were raising or lowering the jib, even though they claimed you could.

 North Sails One Design
To measure the aft rake of your mast, hoist a tape measure on the main halyard and hold it tight at the intersection of the transom and the rear deck.
Raise the mast; hook your jib halyard to your bow plate (and perhaps tie your spinnaker halyard on the bow plate as well as a safety).
With the tight rig jib the groove is quite wide and when trying to accelerate, both telltales will nearly be straight aft, and when sailing in point mode and when trying to depower, again, the luff of the jib will be actually breaking.

 Furling Jib
Mild tensing is kept on the jib's sheet to enable the jib to warp tightly around the headstay.
In a pinch, you can always let the jib out, by loosening it's sheet and roll in the jib, but in high winds excess luffing may occur and this can damage the sail.
After the jib is rolled in, always place several extra wraps of line around the jib to secure it.

 Self-Tacking Jib
Rule of thumb for conventional (Soling style) self-tacking tracks is to have track radius approximately equal to the J measurement.
A small bale is attached to each end of the track by drilling transversely through the track (this is a fore-and-aft hole in vessel coordinates, in case there's any confusion) and through-bolting.
There is a separate conventional jib sheet on each side, with the lead block on the perforated aluminum toe-rail extrusion.

They also reduce injuries and improve safety, since only a low force is required to start and stop the boom rotation and hoist trolley.
