A cousin, Musa Rajoub, was executed as a collaborator by the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade, 23 Apr 2002.
Rajoub has a longstanding rivalry with Dahlan for control of PA security forces, and was appointed Arafat's National Security Advisor in Sept 2003 largely as a way for Arafat to counterbalance the Abbas-Dahlan partnership.
Rajoub is viewed as a pragmatist concerning relations with Israel, advocating a two-state solution and peaceful coexistence.

Jibril Rajoub, the head of the Preventative Security service in the West Bank, is widely seen as one of the leading contenders to succeed Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Mr Rajoub is viewed as a pragmatist and has in the past - mainly in 1996 and 97 - ordered his forces to clamp down on the Islamic militants of Hamas and Islamic Jihad to stop them attacking Israel.
Mr Rajoub commands several thousand men, recruited almost entirely from the occupied territories and many of whom were involved in the first Palestinian intifada of 1987 to 1993.

He has been arrested five times by Israel and once by his brother Jibril Rajoub in 1996 durring a crackdown on Hamas members by Palestinian Preventive Security led by Jibril.
Nayef and his brother parted politicaly years ago, Jibril is a member of the rival Fatah party and ran against Nayef in the 2006 Palestinian elections for Religious Affairs Minister.
