The Jie (Chinese: 羯; Wade-Giles: Chieh) were members of a small tribe in the Xiongnu Confederation in the 4th and 5th centuries CE.
Some historians conjecture the Jie to have been be a medieval tribe related to the modern Kets, living between the Ob and Yenisey tributaries.
Others link the Jie with the Sogdians, and suggest that the family name of Shi from Jie who ruled the Later Zhao state originated in the Sogdian statelet of Tashkent, which was later also known as the Kingdom of Shi.

Authorities particularly targeted unofficial religious groups in locations where there were rapidly growing numbers of unregistered churches or in places of long-seated conflict between official and unofficial churches, such as with Catholics in Baoding, Hebei Province or with evangelical underground Protestant groups as in Henan Province and elsewhere.

Thus beginning from the Han Chinese Tang Dynasty the Miao ceased as a major non-Chinese group except in the province of Yunnan where six "zhaos" (詔 zhao4 means "state") of Miao resided there.

Turkana introduction - Traditional Music & Cultures of Kenya
With a population of somewhere between 250,000 and 340,000, the Nilotic-speaking Turkana are Kenya's third-largest tribe, as well as the country's second-largest group of pastoralists, after the Maasai.
The majority live in Turkana District of Rift Valley Province in the arid northwest of Kenya, bounded to the north by Sudan, by Uganda to the west, to the south by the Pokot and Samburu peoples, and to the east by Lake Turkana (formerly called Lake Rudolf) and its volcanic hills.
As rainfall is uneven and unreliable, this can only be accomplished by the tribe fragmenting into small groups, for what there is of pasture is insufficient to feed a large number of livestock, and hence people.

As the migrated groups assimilated with the Xiang group (Hunan, Hubei), Gan group (Jiangxi), Min-Yue group (most of Fujian), the "Hak" during Song dynasty then was used in narrow definition referring to those migrated South and maintained their independent identity or the Hakkas as we know today.
The wars between the xiongnu "Han" kingdom and Jie, and the downfall of West Jin caused the southward migration of the Han tribe.
It is difficult to imagine that under such extreme ethnic hostility and class distinction at that time, that Hakka could be derived from Xiongnu and enjoyed such treatment in Han occupied territories.
