While cutting How To Make An American Quilt, Jill, on weekends, cut the trailer that Baz had shot on Hi 8 in Sydney with Leonardo Di Caprio and Natalie Portman (best known for her role in Luc Besson's The Professional, and currently can be seen as Taffy in Tim Burton's Mars Attacks).
If a problem arose Jill could walk to the studio, tape in hand, and Baz and Jill on the spot could decide what extra footage was needed.
Jill never had a set plan of how she was going to cut a scene.

JILL BILCOCK was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Editing for WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO and JULIET (1996) (on which she was also an associate producer).
Bilcock began her collaboration with Baz Luhrmann as editor of his film debut, STRICTLY BALLROOM (1992), winning an Australian Film Institute Award (AFI) for Best Editing and a BAFTA nomination.
In 1995, Bilcock was awarded the Byron Kennedy Award by the Australian Film Institute for her rigorous and passionate contribution to all of her projects, in particular to the films of first-time directors.

This time will be spent with Jill and Shekhar working together on the Directors cut, at the same time we will be working with our visual effects company (MPC), sound department, Composers and of course our Producers.

The cinematography by McAlpine, the muscular editing by Jill Bilcock and most of all the continuously intoxicating production design by Martin are all indispensable to the film’s impact.
Martin’s setpieces are practically characters in their own right; there may or may not have been more touching death scenes in other versions of "Romeo + Juliet," but it’s hard to imagine any to match the breathtaking vision of the Capulet tomb here.
