James Bowie (1796 - March 6, 1836), aka Jim Bowie, was a 19th century pioneer and soldier who took a prominent part in the Texas Revolution and was killed at the Battle of the Alamo.
Bowie is also known for the style of knife he carried, which came to be known as the "Bowie knife".
Bowie's first famous display of courage was participating in a brawl near Natchez, Mississippi where several people died and he himself was wounded.

The third one of the original "Bowie brothers" settled in South Carolina, he was the father of Rezin, and grand-father of Rezin Pleasants Bowie, and of James Bowie.
Rezin Pleasants Bowie was born in Sumner County, Tennessee at the end of Baker Lane, about a mile west of Gallatin, TN, afterwards his father sold the property on 1/27/1794 and moved the family to KY, where Jim was born.
Bowie received wounds from three balls, and four stabs, and was, as he expressed himself after his wounds were dressed "damned badly wounded," but how he lived is mystery to me.
