James Paul David ("Jim") Bunning (born October 23, 1931) has distinguished himself in two fields: both as a pitcher in Major League Baseball, from 1955 to 1971, and as a member of the United States Senate representing the Commonwealth of Kentucky since 1999.
His second was a perfect game, which came against the New York Mets on June 21, 1964, the same day that the civil rights workers Andrew Goodman, James Chaney, and Michael Schwerner[?] were murdered in Neshoba County[?], Mississippi.
He was nominated for Governor of Kentucky as a Republican candidate in 1983, but was defeated; four years later he became a Representative from Kentucky, serving until 1998, when the voters elected him to the United States Senate.
