Jim pointed out the changes within the gamer generation, where gamers 10 years ago seemed to be into strategy games and now gamers are primarily into reflex, twitch games (90% of all game projects in the present are some breed of FPS).
Jim pointed out that 90% of the military are non-combatants, and this market needs to be addressed.
Jim spoke a lot about operations research, which I'm not familiar with but plan to look into.

James F. Dunnigan (born 1943) is an author and wargame designer currently living in New York City, notable for his matter-of-fact approach to military analysis.
Born in Rockland County, New York, after high school he volunteered for the military instead of waiting to be drafted, and from 1961 to 1964 worked as a repair technician for the Sergeant ballistic missile, which included a tour in Korea.
Between 1966 and 1992, he designed over 100 wargames and other conflict simulations, ranging from 1969's Up Against the Wall, Motherfucker about the student takeover at Columbia (Dunnigan having witnessed though not participated), to the gigantic War in Europe, to the online Hundred Years War, which has been running since 1992.

I realize the current "geeks" are more familiar with Richard's work since Jim dropped out of gaming and got a real job, but facts are facts.
All this can't be checked on boardgamegeek.com, since all of those games from the '70s are still not up there.
