 Java Programmer's FAQ
Most programmers of any kind have never worked on MS Office, but work on internal applications, and so it is with Java.
In initialize by roll-up, the programmer sets the first element of the array to the desired value, and then moves elements array[0 to n-1] to array[1 to n].
To the programmer, the important difference is that you can change a low level event such as the key value in a keypress, and it will display the new value.

 AMERICAN PROGRAMMER Editorial Guidelines
As one experienced programmer told me, "I often feel I am doing something good when I start drawing these models, but after a while I feel I have somehow passed the point of diminishing returns and my work becomes wasteful.
I hope it is clear that the measure of insufficiency is not to be found in the description of the methodology, but in the relation of the project team to the methodology: Insufficiency is when the team does not communicate often or well enough for the various team members to carry out their work.
We couldn't get six good Smalltalk programmers at that time, so we used 26 programmers, over time ending up with 4 experienced ones, who spent much of their time helping the inexperienced ones.

Chistory   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
In this scheme, the programmer explicitly associates the name of each externally visible procedure and data object with a numeric offset in the global vector; the linkage is accomplished in the compiled code by using these numeric offsets.
Within procedures, the language's interpretation of the pointers was identical to that of the array variables: a pointer declaration created a cell differing from an array declaration only in that the programmer was expected to assign a referent, instead of letting the compiler allocate the space and initialize the cell.
Finally, despite the changes that it has undergone since its first published description, which was admittedly informal and incomplete, the actual C language as seen by millions of users using many different compilers has remained remarkably stable and unified compared to those of similarly widespread currency, for example Pascal and Fortran.

A similar problem, also not unique to the open source phenomenon, is that people outside the movement tend to think of those inside it as walking in lockstep, in complete agreement with the movement's most visible and vocal leaders.
