Jim McGreevey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
McGreevey was a member of the New Jersey General Assembly from 1990 to 1992, when he became Mayor of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey.
McGreevey's term was mired in controversy, from questions as to the credentials of several of his appointments to Pay to Play and extortion scandals involving many of his backers and key New Jersey Democratic fundraisers.
The timing of McGreevey's announcement enabled him to be the first to present news of the upcoming lawsuit to the media, and the decision to delay the effective date of his resignation until after September 3, 2004, avoided a special election in November to replace the governor.

McGreevey is, at least until his resignation, the highest-ranking openly gay elected official in the United States.

Jim McGreevey's Complex Story   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
McGreevey convinced himself that the only way to be elected governor was to present an attractive family portrait to the world of a wife and child.
McGreevey's biggest mistake may have ultimately been not trusting the voters of this state enough and be true to who and what he really is when it comes to his sexuality.
If Jim McGreevey were to do this, he would show how much he truly loves and cares for the state of New Jersey and those he has served over the years.

Jim McGreevey's Promiscuity And The APA
McGreevey's closeted homosexuality or bisexuality has been rumored for years in New Jersey politics yet was never vigorously pursued by the liberal mainstream media.
Governor Jim McGreevey's sexual orientation disturbance and his homosexual adulterous relationship (if this actually occurred), is the logical result of three decades of homosexual propaganda and the willingness of the APA to be used for political purposes by sexual liberationists.
It's important that McGreevey genuinely repent of his sins against his wife, but it's also time for the APA to reverse its ideological, politically-based decision of 1973 and realize that thousands of people have overcome their gender identity conflicts.

Jim McGreevey; America's First Governor To Come Out of the Closet
McGreevey exercised poor judgment in naming his lover to an important state security post, no crime was committed and the vetting process ensured by New Jersey's constitutional system in fact worked by eliminating Golan Cipel from consideration and preventing his confirmation for lack of credentials.
But the reality of the situation in New Jersey is that Jim McGreevey would not have been elected governor, indeed, may not have secured the Democratic Party's nomination to run for governor, were he an out gay man. That is the tragedy of a person being held hostage over their own sexuality.
While we try to sort out the details of why Jim McGreevey has resigned as Governor of New Jersey, we ought to be mindful of the human story behind his announcement and actions that transcends the merely political and legal aspects that, no doubt, will be the obsessive focus of media attention.

Jim McGreevey is not the first politician to be caught up in a sex scandal.
What made McGreevey's confessional so memorable is that it was likely the first time a politician admitted to an affair to draw attention away from the far broader corruption that permeated his administration.
But the ultimate reason McGreevey was driven from office is simple: He appointed a person with whom he was having a sexual relationship - Israeli-born Golan Cipel - to a highly sensitive office for which he was manifestly unqualified.
