Pastor Jim had to make a decision regarding the church in South Dakota even though there was no commitment on the part of the board or Pastor Jim to the Holly Springs fellowship.
In the summer of 1992, Jim was asked to stay on as a Pastor on a part time basis until the end of the year.

Jim intended to study overseas following his university graduation and pursue a career in academics, but due to the health of his father, he returned home in 1962 to help run the grocery store.
Jim's love for travel and his love for family often met as numerous family trips were enjoyed throughout the world, including a family trip to Disney World last spring prior to his diagnosis with cancer.

Jim passed away peacefully at the age of 65 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Helen of 42 years, his daughters Wendy McKay (Lloyd), and Bonnie Penner; two sisters Melinda Penner, Alice Brandt (Walter); one brother Bert (Helen); nine sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law; along with many nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Steinbach, Man., on March 12, 1938, and lived all his married life in Winnipeg.
