Jim Sheridan (born February 6, 1949) is a film director who was born in Dublin, Ireland, and educated by the Irish Christian Brothers.
Sheridan admits neither actress was his first choice for the role, since their ages were wrong and Emma had never acted professionally before.
Sheridan says he was able to solicit such natural performances from them by keeping the mood on set fun and casual - though he admits that he was sometimes a little too casual for the tastes of Sarah.
