Jim Starlin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Starlin was born in Detroit, Michigan, United States.
Starlin along with Len Wein, Marv Wolfman and Walter Simonson was part of the generation of artists and writers who arrived in comics at that time who were primarily fans of the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby "Silver Age of Comics".
Starlin took over as plotter with the next issue and Starlin developed through the comic an elaborate cosmology for the Marvel Universe that was much referenced by other writers.

Talent Pool 17 - Jim Starlin (Oct 1999)
Starlin uses anatomy, motion, and body language that identify him, even if his style does not venture into extreme territory in the fashion of younger, sometimes disturbing, comics artists whose often-surrealistic approaches sometimes suggest mental disorder.
Starlin's recurrent themes of antiauthoritarianism, particularly as expressed through characters that wage war against giant organized churches (Dreadstar and Adam Warlock), may provide some insight into the lack of depth of these hyperthyroidic steroid overlords born of Starlin's pen.
Starlin seems more confident acting out through his heroes rather than his villains as he forces them into corners where double binds make them pick the lesser of great evils (Dreadstar's destruction of the Milky Way Galaxy; Warlock's betrayal unto the death of all of his few friends).

Starlin said this story debuts in September and is a direct tie in to the current 52 weekly event rocking through the DCU.
Starlin said the "Captain" part of Comet's name is poked fun at in the first issue of the series.

Revolving Door of Death 04 - Adam Warlock (Mar 1999)
When Jim Starlin took over the Adam Warlock project in the mid-seventies, he turned the concept into something that made a reputation.
Starlin created a tale more akin to Greek tragedy, where the protagonist, due to a character flaw, must inevitably move forward to his own destruction.
Starlin even managed to graft something of a happy ending on it by recasting the corrupting and vampiric soul gem as a heavenlike place once a soul entered it, so that Adam Warlock might walk into the sunset with his deceased friends Pip the Troll and Gamora the assassin.

Q: Jim, a lot more years back than I think either of us care to count, Jim Shooter took your classic The Price GN and recolored it using a process he then called "revolutionary" as from what I recall the finished work was in living Black and White.
I met Jim Starlin at a comic convention in Boston almost 2 years ago, and why he left Thanos was the first question I asked him.
Jim was a bit surprised, and somewhat miffed, that Marvel would do such a thing, especially considering that he was already using Warlock as a regular supporting character in Thanos.
