Jim’s honest, nose-to-the-grindstone approach was enormously appealing to fans, particularly in the Midwest, and for the rest of the decade he would come to symbolize everything that was good about baseball in Cleveland.
Jim didn’t mind taking less money to stay in an Indians uniform, but he looked at the personnel that would be surrounding him and doubted whether he would still be in his prime when they were ready to challenge for another pennant.
Jim is a leader who inspires his teammates as much through deeds as words, and by all accounts is one of the most likeable people in baseball.

Since I spent so much time bashing the White Sox in my last article for acquiring Jim Thome for Aaron Rowand and some prospects, I figure it is only appropriate that I make some attempt to project the type of season that Thome will have in 2006.
Even before injury though, Thome was in a free-fall from his peak ISOP of.373 achieved in 2001 with the Cleveland Indians.
Again, normally this would be a sign of a player regressing to the mean, but for someone as special as Thome, who has shown such a knack for high BABIP’s that he obviously possesses some type of talent that allows him to do that, this is a sign of decline.
