NEWSARAMA - IMAGE: VALENTINO OUT AS PUBLISHER, LARSEN IN
In a recent interview with Newsarama, Valentino said that the company was done working with studios, although, in his CBR interview, Larsen said that he may be looking to rekindle relationships with former creators.
Jim Valentino is a swell guy and all my dealings with him have been positive.
Jim's first work was normalman published in Cerebus #57, which to me always attested to his passion for bringing indie talent to the printers.

Citrus: Political group forms opposing Wooten
The group, called Truth in Political Advertising, is led by environmentalist Jim Bitter, who has long been a critic of the county's development decisions.
Bitter, who has donated $400 to Valentino's campaign, said the damage is done, and he is afraid independent voters are being misled by the mailers.
Fowler was aided by a slew of advertisements in 2002 that helped him defeat challenger Scott Adams in the general election and, before that, Valentino in the GOP primary.

Jim Valentino has had one of the most varied careers in the comics industry: from small press creator, to independent comics doyen, to fan favorite superhero writer/artist, and finally, now publisher.
Jim Valentino: No. I started in what we now call the "small press" that is, xeroxed comics of various sizes and shapes sold mostly through mail order, traded and given away.
Jim decided to sell his company to DC, another thing that was perfectly within his rights to do.

Incidentally, Valentino faced a bit of a problem when it came to depicting the 1960's comics characters that are a part in Timmy's life.
There are some bits in the series I could quibble with, such as the use of large, but hard-to-read type (instead of more organic hand-lettering) for shouting; Timmy's sad puppy-dog eyes get a bit maudlin at times; and the inking on the last issue was distractingly lacking in solid fls.

 Normalman Twentieth Anniversary Special
After his unexpectedly rapid removal as president of Image, Jim Valentino has taken his colleagues' hint and gone back to the drawing board.
Okay, if you want to be nitpicky, the series actually ran from 1984 to 1986, and other than a couple of one-off stories, it hasn't been used since.
Valentino spent years trying to expand Image's range with a load of unusual and experimental titles (ie, anything that doesn't involve superheroes, 1980s toys and/or big tits), and what did it get him?

 The Comics Journal: Newswatch
Valentino, creator of Normalman, had been involved with independent publishing during the days of the fl-and-white boom, and Liefeld began to increasingly pick his brains on the subject.
According to Valentino, for all their differences, the partners all agreed on two fundamental principles that would form the basis of how Image functioned: Image would never own a creator's property, and Image would never interfere creatively or financially with any of the creators whose work it published.
Valentino describes the company as a cooperative, in which each partner has complete control over his own destiny, something the artists had been frustratingly denied at Marvel.

Of the Image founders, Valentino's work is the least stylized, and he seems to have more personal things to say than his comrades (as evidenced in his Touch of Silver series from several years ago).
Valentino manages to shift the overall visual tone of the title character from a dark one to something that's a little less intense and gritty, and he does so without changing the costume design much at all.
Valentino's figures are a little inconsistent at times, but I love his designs for the Nommo.

Valentino pulls no punches when it comes to his Image Comics compatriots (not to mention one former Image colleague whose publishing affiliation seems to change as often as his underwear).
Of course, Valentino can get away with it because ultimately, he's mocking himself as well for being an active participant in the fantasy- and funds-fueled chaos that is the comic-book industry.

Marder, a longtime friend of Valentino, had always been sympathetic to the Image enterprise, and, as angry retailers added their voices to those of resentful writers and disappointed fans to form a growing public backlash, he was a logical choice to help pull the beleaguered company together.
