Writer-composer, drummer and record producer born in Chilliwack, B. C., Jim Vallance studied piano with Frances James at the University of British Columbia (1970-71) and cello with Hans Siegrist (1974-76).
In the mid-1970s, Vallance began a career in the popular music field, becoming a drummer for the rock groups Sunshyne and Prism.
The fond consists of records pertaining to Jim Vallance's musical career and provides information on a number of personalities in the artistic field as well as various music groups.

Born in 1952, Vallance first wrote for the Vancouver-based group Prism.
Seven of the nine songs on their self-titled debut album (1977) were penned by Vallance, using the pseudonym "Rodney Higgs".
Vallance, who didn't care for touring, quit Prism after the first album, but continued writing songs for the group.

SOCAN was pleased to present Jim Vallance with a No. 1 Song Award for the Hedley hit song “3 2 1,” on Jan. 31, 2007.
Vallance’s co-writers on the song, Hedley members Chris Crippin, Jacob Hoggard (the former Canadian Idol finalist), Tommy Mac and Dave Rosin, as well as producer Brian Howes, were honoured in an earlier No. 1 award presentation which Vallance could not attend.
SOCAN’s Terry O’Brien and Aidyl Villaflor presented the awards to Vallance — who is a SOCAN board member — in the lobby of the SOCAN Vancouver office.

Jim Vallance says: In 1979 I wrote a song called "Jamaica".
The original version of this song was written by Jim Vallance and was performed by Bachman Turner Overdrive.
I researched some interviews Rick did, and Rick does credit "Charity" Vallance - meaning he was giving "charity" to Jim Vallance for the music - but Rick did write the lyrics (for Kristina).
