Jan 25, 2006 11:26 AM The Jimei University Library in Xiamen, China, is installing radio frequency identification (RFID) in its main library on campus with assistance from Shanghai RFID System Technology Co. Ltd.
Personnel at the Jimei University Library also hope RFID technology will speed the sorting process for library items, so books and other items are returned to shelves quicker and less time is spent taking inventory.
Jimei University Library will expand the project to other libraries on campuses later this year.

Tan was born on October 21, 1874, in Jimei, a town 26 kilometres from Xiamen, in the East China province of Fujian.
In 1921, he set up Xiamen University and maintained it for 16 years even during his financially difficult years, before the then Chinese Government took charge over it in 1937.
He said there are about 500 Jimei school fellows in Thailand and they organize a celebration every year in memory of Tan.
