Jiminy Cricket - Don Markstein's Toonopedia
Jiminy was designed by master animator Ward Kimball at the direction of Disney himself, who thought there was something missing from the Pinocchio film as it was originally proposed.
Jiminy started turning up in comic books during the 1950s, often drawn by veteran funny animal artist Al Hubbard, who also did Chip'n'Dale, Mary Jane and Sniffles, and many other Dell comics based on licensed animated characters.
There, Jiminy did two main types of story — some based on his Mickey Mouse Club role, presenting factual material in an entertaining way; and some in which he travelled from place to place and occasionally interacted with other minor Disney characters, such as Li'l Bad Wolf and Thumper (from Bambi).

Jiminy Cricket: "Conscience is that still, small voice that people won’t listen to.
The flaws in Disney’s understanding of conscience begin with Jiminy Cricket’s description of conscience as a "still, small voice." This phrase clearly evokes 1 Kings 19:12 where the voice of Yahweh speaks to the prophet Elijah.
To illustrate the separation between Jiminy Cricket as "conscience" and the notion of it being ordered to universal truth, it is helpful to consider the scene where Jiminy finally catches up to Pinocchio at Pleasure Island.

 Sounding Circle: Jiminy Cricket
While most crickets serenade their lady friends before making a move, this particular species is somewhat brutish, often causing injury during sex.
Not only are other crickets rather more gentlemanly in their approach, they also often take days to recover after copulation, making alpinus the "stallion" of the insect world.
Most crickets sing to their "lovers" before mating, which is how they avoid copulating with the wrong species: female crickets simply do not fancy males who sing a foreign song.
