Jimmie scored two ASCAP (American Society of Composer, Authors, and Publisher) "Most Played Songs" awards for his self-penned "Workin' Man (No Where To Go)," and "When It's Gone," co-written with Don Schlitz.
As to how he began writing songs, Jimmie says, "I wasn't quite sure about this songwriting thing, until one night between sets at a club in Orange County (California), one ot the guys who played with us then (Jackson Browne), was out back in the parking lot writing something on a piece of paper.

It was there that they met Ralph Barr (guitar, washtub bass), Les Thompson (vocals, mandolin, bass, guitar, banjo, percussion), Jimmie Fadden (harmonica, vocals, drums, percussion), and Jackson Browne (guitar, vocals).
The members scattered for several months, but six months later the group was back for another try; the new lineup included McEuen, Hanna, Fadden, Thompson, and Jim Ibbotson (guitars, accordion, drums, percussion, piano, vocals).

Bruce Kunkel (b c'48, Long Beach CA) and Jeff Hanna (b 11 July, '47, Detroit) began playing and singing together, recruited Jimmie Fadden (b 9 March '48), John McEuen (b 19 Dec. '45), Leslie Thompson and Ralph Barr, all from Long Beach except Barr, originally from Boston.
They called themselves the Illegitimate Jug Band because they didn't have a jug player; after high school they changed their name and turned pro; signed with Liberty and released Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Ricochet '67.
Stars And Stripes Forever '74 was a two-disc live set by Hanna, McEuen, Ibbotson and Fadden; studio set Dream '75 incl.

Three decades later the platinum album - recently released in an expanded, remastered 30th-anniversary edition by Capitol Records - stands as a testament to the group's place in history, and its continuing ability to successfully bridge the gap between contemporary and traditional music.

Written by band member Jimmie Fadden, the song is a classic tale of working-class woe.
The band formed in 1966 during jam sessions at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Long Beach, where Fadden, McEuen, Jeff Hanna and Jackson Browne were among the California cowboys who would rather pick guitar than work for a living.
By the mid-1970s, the band had settled on a lineup that featured McEuen on guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin and accordion; Hanna on vocals, drums and washboard; Fadden on vocals, guitar and harmonica; and Jimmy Ibbotson on bass, vocals, keyboards and accordion.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band is returning to Newfoundland this month, and it’s sure to be a real treat for fans, according to drummer and vocalist Jimmie Fadden.

I am partial to "' Am A Pflgrhn," a not-obnoxious country religion song, which is enhanced by some fine harp work by Jimmie Fadden of the Dirt Band.
Doec Watson does quite a few songs for this collection: if he's not the featured guitarist/vocalist, he is at least playing backup or rhythm guitar for someone else.
Side one features a previously un- recorded Jimmy Martin song, "Grand Ole Opry Song," which extolls the virtues of the rat-infested Nashvile Theatre of the same name by mentioning the people who have played there.

While hearing "Partners Brothers and Friends" and "Baby's Got A Hold On Me" would've been great, the set was filling as it was, and the rapport between the band and their audience was tight.
While waiting in the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts lobby, I was fortunate enough to encounter Doris (Jimmie's sister) and she took me backstage where I had brief chats with Jimmie, Jeff and Bob, and a slightly longer one with Ibby.
