Mediajonez.com: MUSIC: Album Reviews: The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
Lead singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala's high-pitched croon wails blues like Robert Plant, and when matched with Omar a Rodriguez-Lopez's lean Jimmy Page guitar sound, it's like a glimpse into where Led Zeppelin could have gone if age and Bonham's death had never caught up with them.
But despite very Zep textures all over the place, this is not some Led Zeppelin cover band by any stretch (although the "Since I Been Loving You" update, "The Widow", may point otherwise).
From the opening celtic strums that begin the album, the band's Zeppelinesque qualities are evident.

Thirty years from now Omar Rodriguez Lopez and Cedric Bixler Zavala will be held in the same regard as Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, the almighty song writing duo of Led Zeppelin, mark my words.
Frances the Mute is the second concept album from the Mars Volta; brain-child of former At The Drive-In members, Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez Lopez.
As a band they have grown significantly since their 2003 debut Deloused in the Comatorium and with Omar producing the album himself we are finally able to get a clearer picture of the Mars Volta as a working unit.
